A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered healthy for most adults. Under 18.5 is underweight, 25–29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

BMI has limitations for muscular individuals since muscle is denser than fat. Athletes may have a high BMI without excess body fat.

How is BMI calculated?

BMI = weight in kg ÷ (height in meters)². In imperial units: BMI = (weight in lbs × 703) ÷ (height in inches)².
